After a Long Absence

I am afraid that I have been too busy to post on my blog. My 85 year old mother had a aorta aureyism that ruptured. She is fine now but for about two weeks I was driving to Memphis almost everyday. She is home now and things have calmed down a bit.

Last weekend I went to Pilot Fall Council at Lake Tia O'Khata with 9 other Pilots from Houston, MS. We had a great time. Our club was Hostess club along with the club from Amory. I was the chairman of the convention. We had lots of fun and I enjoyed visiting with many Pilot friends from other parts of the state. We laughed so much that I came home with a sore stomach. It is so good to be with good friends that laugh and help you enjoy life.

Then last night a terrible thing happened. Bro. Dan my pastor resigned. I guess it is not terrible because he is doing God's will but I sure hate to lose him. I sure hate to be looking for a new pastor. I am praying that God has a man ready to take his place and lead us into a new understanding.

New Reason for retirement!

Well for the passed two weeks I have found another reason for my retirement. Late, a couple of Sunday's ago, my baby brother called me. He and Daddy were on their way to the the hospital in Collierville, TN following an ambulance that was carrying my 85 year old mother. Mother was then airlifted to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where they did surgery on her for a ruptured aorta. Needless to say this was not an easy surgery especially since she is 85 years old. Thank God for His goodness, she made it through the surgery and then after a day or two they went back in and cleaned out an artery and put a stint in two other arteries. I traveled back and forth to Memphis which is an 2 1/2 hour drive several times in the passed two weeks. If I had not been retired I could not have made the trip as often because I would not have been able to get off work. I did not want my 85 year old daddy to be by himself at the hosiptal so I traveled. I even stayed a night or two at the hosiptal. Thank goodness we got her home last Friday. Now I only have to travel 1 1/2 hours to her house. However, Daddy will not let me come every day. I am going Sunday and stay through Tuesday so that he can go to some meetings. He is on several boards and gets paid for attending these meetings. He wants to get paid. With the hospital stay he is concerned about money so I am going to stay with Mother while he goes to the meetings. He will not leave her alone. They have been married 61 years and he has never left her alone when she was sick. He has never been seriously sick. Mother has had several close calls but always makes it through. I guess God has something left for them to do. Friends have been wonderful. She has recieved over 100 cards and many calls and visits. We all appreciate the efforts that hers and Daddy's friends have put forth. Isn't it great that I am not working. God works some many things out for the best.

School is Starting

Today was Open House for the school where I teach. I went just to see how things were going. I saw a few of my old students and talked to the teacher replacing me. I am glad that I am not rushing around trying to get things ready. Even as I looked at her schedule there were no longings to be there. No feelings or needs to be teaching again. No desire to explain the facts of life to children. Just relieve that I no longer need to be there.

Retirement is fun. I can do as I please when I please. This month will be the first time that I have not received a pay check, only my retirement check. Life will be a little harder without that check but if it gets too bad I can always go back to work. I may have to find something else to do. I like to crochet so that may be a place that I can look for some kind of work. I also am going to teach some online courses when I have been retired long enough. That will give me a little money here and there.

Also next weekend I am going to see my son and his wife for the first time since they moved to Idaho. I am looking forward to that. It seems like forever since we saw them but only a couple three months.

Not getting what you want!

As a retired person one thing I had looked forward to was sleeping late. But no!!!! The powers that be try their best to keep me from doing that. This week the city is fixing a leak in my yard so I had to get up and fill containers with water to cook with because my water is cut off. Then I had to move my car. And the really crazy thing is that the leak is not even to our house but to the apartments behind our house. I am being punished for the work done for someone. Then the next day I had to get up to go to the doctor for my regular yearly check-up. Also my husband who is an early riser loves the light and the light wakes me. There are no curtians in our room just blinds that let the light in. He is sweet in that he does not open the blinds which I know he would love to. I do not sleep well after the sun comes up. Just more stuff!!!!!

Another thing that I have not been able to do much of is read. I love to read fiction but when you are working it is hard to find the time to read. Well of course, it could be because I have to finish the book before I will put it down. I read an entire book in one sitting. Nothing else happens because I want to know how the books end. Does not matter if it is a good book or a bad book. I have to finish it or I will not sleep wondering if how I figure it will end is the way it ends. Crazy but me. When I read Gone with the Wind, I finally went to bed at 4 AM and got up the next morning and finished the book. I used to read only those REader Digest Condensed books so that I could finish them in one reading. My sister in law brougth me 10 books and I had them all read in 2 weeks. She brought me 20 but I have not read but one book so far because I knew I needed to work on the house and if I started I would not finish---the house work that is. The reading I would do.

I have always been amazed at how things seem to happen. For instance several years ago I went to a convention in San Antonio, Texas. The first place we ate was at an Olive Garden. I had never heard of Olive Garden much less visited one. After I got home the first Advertisement I saw on TV was for Olive Garden opeining in Memphis. Then at another convention the speaker talked about a rare disease she had called Fibromyalgia which I had never heard of. When I got home our choir director's wife who had been sick had been diagnosed with this same disease. Just to prove my point, one of the books that my sisiter in law gave me was christian novel set in the old west. The couple were living in Montana and her brother was leading a hunting group with Teddy Roosevelt in the "Couer d'Alene" mountian area. I had never heard of that place before my son a while back went to visit it to see about a job there which he took. Coincidence maybe but strange. At least I think it is strange.

I was sitting in my den listening to TV and heard a noise I have not heard in a long time. I had to jump up and go see what was going on. It was raining. It only lasted about 5 minutes and my husband says it was only of an inch. It did not cool anything down but at least it was water on the yard.

I have finished my blog lessons and I hope that I will get some students. I want to try some of the things that I learned but I have not had a free minute to work on the Blog itself. Hopefully I will have some time soon.

Can you believe that school will be starting in 2 weeks? Well school for the teachers will begin in two weeks(not for me). Students will have 3 weeks(Not for me). I am anxious to see how I will feel when others are at work and I am in bed. I will probably have the grand girls but I will not have to get dressed or go to school. This summer I have not really felt retired but I guess I will when everyone goes back to school and I don't. I did get my first retirement check with all the withholds held out and I am now officially poor.

Bobby has gone to bed so I guess I had better finish and follow him. Until the next time.

Another Day another problem

As I was working on my Blog class, the unthinkable happened. My computer crashed. Luckily I had saved my work to Blackboard so I am only having to do one lesson over. I had started but had not gotten very far. Bobby(my husband)spent 2 hours on the phone trying to get things fixed with Dell. Luckily my computer is still under warranty. They set up a time to call back because the diagnosed was very slooooooooow. Then the next day Bobby spent another 2 hours with Dell. Finally they decided I would have to have a new hard drive. Now I am waiting for the technician to call to set up a time to install a new hard drive. Until then I am working on the new laptop that we gave Bobby for Father's Day and our anniversary. Luckily thing we gave it to him. I still have 2 lessons to do and they are due Friday. But I am not a laptop person. It takes me twice as long to type stuff. My fingers are too big or something. Just not use to it. Also we have it sitting on the computer desk and every now and then I try to use the computer mouse. Dumb I know but that is me.

How am I doing on the Blog? Can you tell I am working on lessons for how to set up a Blog? I just finished how to format your blog. Notice the work.

Beginning at the beginning

This is my first post. I am learning so that I may teach a unit on "How to use Blogger." I will teach this 5 lesson program on line to other teachers. The purpose of this is to help supplement my income now that I am a retired teacher. After 25 years I decided I had had enough disrespect and that I could live with a cut in pay. Well looks like I was wrong.

I have read many blogs and most of the members of my family have blogs. I have also learned that doing is the easiest way to learn something. So I am setting up my own Blog today to begin. Hope that I can learn and have a easy time.
